Eastwood High School has been my home for the past three years. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with the amazing students and families that make up the Trooper Community. I am very excited to be a part of launching the first ever online version of the Eastwood Sabre, known as the Etank in it’s online version.
I was not always a Trooper as hard as it to believe. Ventura County, California was my home from the age of two, when I left my birth state of New Mexico, up until I moved to El Paso at the ripe age of 30.
The University of California at Los Angeles, UCLA, helped me grow into the teacher I am today. I studied Latin American Studies concentrating on Social Sciences and minored in Chicano Studies. I graduated in 1999 and soon after began a masters program in Latin American Studies, this time concentrating on History and Education. Something life changing occurred during my second quarter as a graduate student at UCLA, I was offered a job as a social studies teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District. I had no experience as a teacher but I had the desire to impact students in a positive way. I then concurrently enrolled in a program known as the Center X Teacher Education Program for Social Justice.
The subjects that I have taught since I started my teaching career back in the year 2000 are plenty: World History, Economics, Government, US History, 9-11 Grade Language Arts, ESL, Migrant Education, Newspaper, Yearbook, Photojournalism, Intro. to Journalism, Speech, Chicano Studies, and Folklorico. I have enjoyed teaching every one of these subjects and have enjoyed being a part of my students’ lives.
